Daltonist Privacy Policy

This Policy explains the privacy practices of the current offline version of the Daltonist Android application (“Daltonist” or the “App”) and this policy website.

1 Who we are

Daltonist is published by SyncStudioX. For privacy questions, contact syncstudiox@gmail.com.

2 Scope and core privacy design

Daltonist helps people, including people with color-vision differences, describe garment colors and assess an outfit. The App can take or open a photo, sample colors at points selected by the user, provide an on-device result, keep a local history and maintain a local wardrobe.

Daltonist works offline. It does not send photos or analysis results to SyncStudioX, and it does not use accounts, advertising or analytics.

Medical notice: The optional color-perception check and profile are personalization tools only. They are not a medical test, diagnosis or treatment.

3 Data accessed and used by the App

The following information can be processed locally. “Local” means that the information is handled inside the App or its private storage on your device and is not received by us through the App.

DataWhy it is usedWhen it is stored
Photos you take or select To sample garment colors, display the editor and create wardrobe previews. Daltonist does not deliberately read or use photo location/EXIF metadata. A working copy may exist temporarily in app memory or cache. A history photo is retained only if you enable “Keep photos with history”. When you explicitly save a garment or outfit to My Wardrobe, a reduced photo or crop may be stored with that wardrobe entry.
Analysis records To show history and reopen results. Records can include date and time, check type, occasion, garment categories or a custom label, sample-point positions, measured color values, stability, score, verdict, confidence, findings and suggested changes. A derived record is saved to local History after a completed analysis. It does not contain the original pixels unless photo retention is separately enabled.
Wardrobe content To remember garments and outfits you deliberately save, show compatible items and generate local outfit ideas. Stored only after you choose a save action. It can include color readings, garment category or custom name, note, favorite status, date, result details and a reduced photo or crop.
Color-perception profile To personalize explanations for protan-, deutan- or tritan-like uncertainty. The profile you select or accept and a “test completed” flag are stored locally. Individual tile answers are not retained after the check.
Preferences To remember your language, last occasion and photo-retention choice. Stored in private app preferences until changed, app data is cleared or the App is uninstalled, subject to system backup described below.

A photo may itself contain personal information if you photograph a person, a recognizable location or another identifying detail. You decide what is in the frame. For better privacy and more accurate results, photograph only the garment or outfit area needed for analysis.

4 Device permissions and photo access

  • Camera: requested only when you choose to take a photo. If denied, camera capture remains unavailable, while gallery selection can still work.
  • Selected photos: gallery import uses Android’s system Photo Picker. The App receives access only to the image you select and does not request broad file or media-library permission.
  • Not requested: location, microphone, contacts, phone, SMS, calendar, nearby devices and broad storage access.
  • No Internet permission: the App cannot directly connect to SyncStudioX or an application backend.

You can manage camera permission in Android Settings. Permission behavior and the Photo Picker interface are provided by Android and may vary by device version.

5 Local storage, temporary files and Android backup

App-private storage

History, wardrobe records, settings and retained images are kept in storage assigned to Daltonist by Android. Other ordinary apps cannot access this area directly. Wardrobe and retained-history images are reduced to a maximum long edge of approximately 512 pixels before being stored.

Temporary files

A photo taken through the camera is first written to the App’s cache. Cached files are excluded from Android Auto Backup, but a temporary file may remain until Android or the user clears the cache, app storage is cleared, or the App is uninstalled.

Optional Android system backup

If backup is enabled in your Android settings, Android may include Daltonist’s local database, preferences and saved images in the backup connected to your Google account. This is performed by Android—not by Daltonist—and SyncStudioX cannot access the backup. You can manage or disable it in your device’s backup settings. See Android’s backup documentation and the Google Privacy Policy.

6 Collection, sharing, sale and third parties

SyncStudioX does not collect, share or sell data through the App. Photos, analysis results, history and wardrobe data remain under the user’s control on the device, subject only to the optional Android system backup described above.

If you contact support

If you choose to email support, we receive only the information you include and use it to answer your request. Email is handled through Gmail under the Google Privacy Policy. We keep correspondence only as long as reasonably needed or legally required.

This policy website

This static site has no SyncStudioX analytics, ads, forms or tracking scripts. Because GitHub Pages hosts it, GitHub may log technical information such as a visitor’s IP address for security. SyncStudioX does not receive those raw logs. See GitHub Pages data collection and the GitHub Privacy Statement.

7 Retention and deletion

  • History: delete individual results from History or delete all history from Profile & settings. Associated retained-history photos are deleted with those records.
  • Wardrobe: remove an individual garment or outfit from My Wardrobe. Its associated stored image is deleted with that entry.
  • All local data: use Android’s “Clear storage/Clear data” control or uninstall Daltonist.
  • Preferences: change available preferences in the App, or clear all app storage to remove them.
  • Backups: deletion on the device may not immediately remove an earlier Android backup. Backup replacement, retention and deletion are controlled by Android/Google and your account settings.

Daltonist has no user account, so there is no separate account-deletion process. Because we do not receive your App data, we cannot view or delete the local or Google-account backup copy on your behalf.

8 Security

Daltonist minimizes risk by avoiding network transmission, using Android app-private storage, requesting only camera permission, limiting gallery access to selected images and removing associated files when history or wardrobe entries are deleted. No method of storage is completely secure. Device compromise, an unlocked phone, a malicious operating system component or a backup-account compromise may expose local information. Keep Android updated and protect the device and Google account with a strong screen lock and account security controls.

9 Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights relating to personal data, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability or complaint to a data-protection authority. Most Daltonist App data is never in our possession; the practical way to exercise control is through the in-app deletion controls, Android storage settings, backup settings or uninstalling the App.

For data you send directly to us in a support message, contact syncstudiox@gmail.com. We may need enough information to identify the relevant correspondence. You may also complain to the competent data-protection authority in your country. These rights may be subject to lawful limitations.

We do not make legal or similarly significant decisions about you and do not use automated decision-making for advertising, credit, employment, insurance or medical purposes. Outfit verdicts are informational style guidance only.

10 Children’s privacy

Daltonist does not require an account, show ads or transmit children’s photos or profiles to us through the App. The App is not designed to solicit names, contact details or other personal information from children. A parent or guardian should supervise camera and gallery use where appropriate. If a child sends personal information to our support email without appropriate permission, a parent or guardian may contact us to request deletion.

11 International processing

The App itself does not send data to us across borders. If you visit this GitHub-hosted page, use Android/Google backup or contact us through Gmail, GitHub and Google may process information in countries described in their privacy documentation and subject to their transfer safeguards.

12 Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy when Daltonist’s functionality, data practices, legal requirements or hosting changes. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. If a future release adds networking, accounts, advertising, analytics, remote AI or new data sharing, this Policy and the Google Play Data safety declaration must be updated before or with that release, and additional in-app notice or consent will be provided where required.
